Need Help With Herlay Dovidsan 701706 From Sembo (via YWOBB)

Loy Chen from YWOBB suggested I try you guys. I bough the Herlay Dovidsan motorcycle, item # 701706 by Sembo and I have run into troubles with step 30-31 on. It seems to me that either the cylinders (the four cylindrical tube with slits in their sides) are too tall or else the cylinder heads are too short. Once you try to attach the two pieces together in step 30, you can see that the cooling fins don't line up like they should, but it becomes obvious on step 31 when you try to install the brace bar and it pulls the head down.

Has anyone else ever built this and noticed this? I need to know which part is the wrong size so I can order the correct parts.

Here are some photos - - As you can see in #1, before installing the brace on the side, the top is lined up, while the bottom is not. Once I install the brace (indicated by the arrow in #2) you can see that the brace pulls one cylinder head down, which lines up the bottom pieces, but separates the upper and lower heads on the left side.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I tried to look at my Set. It's quite hard to see, but I think mine looks like in your first picture. In the end works and is not really visible.

Hello to this wonderful board.

Actually i do think this is one of the weak points of this set.
This somehow really tricky to build.
In the end both halfs of the engine block align somehow. But to be fair: This is a very fragile solution and is far by a strong connection.
I actually had to disassemble the whole bike several times to some degree, since these tubes popped out at the slightest touch.

I guess the reason here is the overall structure and some misalignment by some degrees which create some stress on the whole construction.
Replacing some single parts will not do the trick, I am afraid.

Just to make sure, it seems to be a construction error, not a quality issue regarding the pieces themselves. I guess Sembo used so-called "illegal" building techniques, i.e. they combine pieces in a manner which seems to be working at first sight but which should not be used as there are slight deviations (pieces in fact a bit too large for this particular combination) resulting in stress (see this PDF to get an impression on that issue - Lego tries to avoid anything related).

I borrowed your picture to illustrate one of the short comings of this design.
This is not even listed as an illegal building technique, since nobody normally would come up with such an idea.

There are several such connection in this design.
It somehow works, but is not elegant and generates many weak points resulting in similar things as you experienced.
Once the Set is built it still looks good on the shelf

For the record: Here is a building review from China. Shows the building process and the different parts used, particularly the construction of the motor block. They touch upon similar issues as those mentioned above. Their solution is to file away some material to increase the fit. It may be helpful for future builders:

I appreciate your reply. I should have posted this when I finished the model, but I forgot that I had made this post to begin with. I finally got the model finished. It's pretty sturdy now. What I did was to design and 3d print custom pieces for those as well as a couple of others I found wrong later in the build. Thanks for the feedback! Re the stickers: I suspected that you should rearrange them so as to get the original spelling. Is that why they are coming in 3 parts?

No... I don't think so. I think that is was just so that a single sticker didn't span three bricks. But... doing that just looks ... wrong...
